Frequently asked questions.
What is The Qi Room?
The Qi Room is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice that combines the depth of Eastern healing traditions with the clarity and care associated with Swiss standards. My aim is to help you reconnect with your body’s natural rhythms and support lasting wellness through a holistic, personalized approach.
What treatments do you offer?
I provide a range of TCM therapies, including acupuncture, acupressure, cupping, moxibustion, Tui Na massage, as well as lifestyle and nutritional guidance based on Chinese medical theory. Each treatment plan is uniquely adapted to your individual needs.
What conditions can TCM help with?
Traditional Chinese Medicine can support many health issues, both physical and emotional. People often come to me for help with stress, anxiety, digestive concerns, menstrual or fertility issues, chronic pain, fatigue, sleep problems, headaches, or to simply maintain balance and prevent illness. If you're unsure, I’m happy to offer a consultation to discuss your specific concerns.
What is Acupuncture and is it safe?
Acupuncture is an alternative therapy and component of Chinese Medicine. It involves the insertion of very fine needles into the skin and muscles, for the treatment of various medical conditions.
Acupuncture is a safe treatment, using sterilised, single-use needles. All licensed Acupuncturists are required to undertake the highest quality of training and follow strict codes of safe acupuncture practice, professional conduct and hygiene standards.
I am a registered member of the AFPA, meaning I meet Ireland’s upmost standards of safe practise.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture is a gentle and safe treatment, tailored to each individual client. Some areas may be more sensitive than others, but it should not be painful. I use specialised needles to ensure the most comfortable treatment, they are thinner than a human hair.
Always let your practitioner know if you are scared of needles, so the treatment can be tailored accordingly. There are also many other aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine that can be used in treatment that don’t involve needles; such as Acupressure, Gua Sha, Cupping, and Moxa.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Make sure to eat something at least 2 hours before your appointment. Try to avoid caffeine in this time also. Wear loose fitting clothing, but be aware you may need to dress down to underwear depending on the treatment. In this instance you will be provided with a towel.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your health goals and how your body responds. Some people notice a difference after just one or two treatments, while others benefit from regular sessions over time. We’ll reassess and adjust your plan as you progress.
Is Acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
Yes, and I recommend it! Acupuncture can be used throughout pregnancy, from pre-conception to post-natal care, and is completely safe. If you are not coming for fertility acupuncture specifically, but you are trying to get pregnant, always let me know as some points are contraindicated in pregnancy.
How will I feel after my appointment?
This may be different for everyone, but usually people feel relaxed yet energised. You may feel hungry or tired, so if you can, make some time to rest afterwards. Make sure to stay hydrated and keep warm to support the body’s healing process.
Do you accept insurance?
Many private health insurance providers in Ireland offer partial or full reimbursement for acupuncture treatments carried out by registered practitioners. As a member of the Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association (AFPA), I meet the professional standards required by most major insurers. (AFPA Number: 8788)
If you have a policy with Irish Life Health, VHI, Laya Healthcare, or other providers, your plan may include cover for complementary therapies such as acupuncture. The level of reimbursement varies depending on your specific plan, so it’s best to check with your insurer directly.
After your treatment, I can provide a detailed receipt including all necessary practitioner and AFPA registration details to support your claim. If you need help with the reimbursement process, I’m happy to assist.
